Assertive community treatment

Court-ordered outpatient treatment

Paliperidone

A medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder in adults by modulating the activity of certain neurotransmitters in the brain to to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking. In a drug treatment facility, Paliperidone may be used as a treatment in conjunction with other medications, such as mood stabilizers or antidepressants, as well as various forms of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or group therapy.

Quetiapine

An atypical antipsychotics used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder by reducing the symptoms of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder, such as hallucinations, delusions, mood swings, and sleep disturbances. Aunique aspect of Quetiapine is that it has been associated with a relatively lower risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) compared to some other antipsychotics. EPS are a set of movement disorders that can occur with the use of antipsychotic medications, and can include symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, and involuntary movements. While Quetiapine may still cause EPS in some individuals, it is generally considered to have a lower risk of these symptoms compared to other antipsychotics.

Ziprasidone

Ziprasidone is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. It is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. One unique feature of Ziprasidone is that it may have a lower risk of causing weight gain compared to some other atypical antipsychotics. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who are already at risk for metabolic disorders, such as diabetes or heart disease, as weight gain can exacerbate these conditions. Additionally, Ziprasidone may have a lower risk of causing sedation or cognitive impairment compared to some other antipsychotics.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Refers to a form of therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns. The client is encouraged to be an active participant in the therapy process.

Couples/family therapy

Involves group sessions with a therapist at Will’s Place who facilitates discussions and problem-solving activities to enhance the understanding between couples and family members and improve their relationships. This type of therapy addresses problematic behaviors that could contribute to serious mental health issues. Family therapy also provides education about mental illness, and teaches coping skills for dealing with the challenges of having a family member with a mental illness, such as managing feelings of anger or guilt.

Dialectical behavior therapy

A type of therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with acceptance and mindfulness strategies, with the goal of helping individuals address multiple disorders. DBT has five components, including skills training, individualized treatment plans, access to therapists beyond the clinical setting, reinforcement of adaptive behaviors, and therapist team consultation. The therapy seeks to balance behavioral change, problem-solving, and emotional regulation with validation, mindfulness, and acceptance.

Group therapy

Involves small groups, typically consisting of 4 to 12 individuals who share similar challenges, meeting regularly with a therapist at Will’s Place. The therapist leverages the emotional interactions within the group to provide relief from distress and potentially modify the behavior of the group members.

Integrated Mental and Substance Use Disorder treatment

A treatment approach that addresses both mental illness and substance abuse simultaneously, offered by a single clinician or treatment team. This long-term, community-focused program uses specialized counseling specifically designed for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Individual psychotherapy

Focuses on addressing a patient's current life and relationships within their family, social, and work environment through one-on-one therapy sessions. The aim is to identify and resolve issues with a deeper understanding, and also to build upon the patient's strengths.

Telemedicine/telehealth therapy
